How the gPA Calculator works
GPA is a credit-weighted average: each grade converts to points on the 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), gets multiplied by the course's credit hours, and the total is divided by total credits. A 4-credit class moves your GPA more than a 1-credit lab.
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σcredits
Example: an A in a 3-credit class (12 points) and a B in a 4-credit class (12 points) is 24 points over 7 credits, a 3.43 GPA.
Frequently asked questions
How do plus and minus grades convert?
On the common scale, A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and each step continues in 0.3 or 0.4 jumps down to F = 0. Some schools skip plus and minus grades entirely, so check your school's chart.
What GPA counts as good?
A 3.0 is the classic solid benchmark, 3.5 and up is strong for competitive colleges and scholarships, and 3.7 or higher is typically honors territory.
Is this weighted or unweighted GPA?
This tool computes the standard unweighted 4.0 GPA. Weighted GPAs add bonus points for honors or AP classes, often on a 5.0 scale, and every district weights differently.
